Anima Christi A Medieval Prayer On Good Friday 2016

I recently printed out some old “notes” while reorganizing stuff on my computer. Just happened to start rereading through the printed sheets today, Friday. Good Friday. Here is what I found. A beautiful spiritual old prayer called “Anima Christi”.

Soul of Christ, make me holy
Body of Christ, be my salvation
Blood of Christ, let me drink your wine
Water flowing from the side of Christ, wash me clean
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
Kind Jesus, hear my prayer
Hide me within your wounds
And keep me close to you
Defend me from the evil enemy
To the fellowship of your saints
That I might sing your praise with them
For all eternity.
Amen.

“THE DOVE” NEW 2ND SINGLE & VIDEO FROM SKY

LAUNCH OF NEW EMOTIONAL POWERHOUSE DUO — JEANNE NEWHALL & KAZUNORI KOGA

The acclaimed Los Angeles based singer, songwriter, and pianist Jeanne Newhall has joined musical forces with Osaka based guitar guru Kazunori Koga to form an exciting Duo. Together they bring a vast array of influences, from jazz and blues to folk, pop, and R&B. Their compelling and heart-warming story, whether told by Ms. Newhall in English or Mr. Koga in Japanese, will inspire a belief in all things magical.
Several months before Ms. Newhall’s first performances in Japan in February of 2013, she was contacted many times by a gentleman who had been an avid fan, collecting her albums that spanned her 20 year recording career. He owned a small private jazz club in Osaka where a couple of her American friends and well know celebrities in the jazz scene had also performed. After speaking with them, Ms. Newhall was convinced to make her maiden voyage to Japan to perform several shows with a band comprised of several Japanese musicians. Among the musicians was Kazunori Koga bringing both his acoustic and electric guitar mastery to the mix. It was not long before they recognized each other, like familiar old souls.
As Mr. Koga describes, ” a special chemistry emerged between us. I contacted her after the shows to let her know the connection that I felt between us.”. As Ms. Newhall says, “his intuitive and soulful sensibilities provided a foundation for me to sing and play from as never before. I could not wait to perform with him again.”
As a result of the first meeting and shows in February 2013, Ms. Newhall invited Mr. Koga to come to Los Angeles in May to perform a concert with her at the famous Catalina Jazz Club Hollywood. A mere 24 hours after Ms. Newhall and Mr. Koga reunited on stage at Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood, they gathered at Castle Oaks Studio in the canyons near the Pacific Ocean with legendary bassist Abraham Laboriel and Alex Acuña’s protegé percussionist Walter Rodriguez to record her newest album, “SKY.”
As a result of the release of the album “Sky” which features Kazunori Koga on all the songs,
Ms. Newhall returned to Japan twice more in October 2013 and April 2014 for several performances with Duo in Osaka, Kobe, Esaka, and Kyoto.

TUESDAY’S TONE — 4 WEEKS FROM TODAY

image

Good day all!

Four weeks from today I will be in the wonderful world of islandology known as Japan. It is with childlike delight that I look forward to my 2nd trip there this year! I have found a home away from home; a place that truly resonates with me on many levels including the spiritual. Japan, specifically the places I visited and performed in, Osaka, Kyoto, Ohara, and Tokyo touched me profoundly. The people that I met and performed for gave me much more than I gave to them. It is truly a gift to return to this place.

The newly designed poster by my friend Kouichi Sugioka, announces the first stop on my tour: LIVE SPOT RAG KYOTO. This marks the first of many DUO performances for guitarist Kazunori Koga and I. We hope to see you there on the 10th of October, Thursday evening in the lovely historic city of Kyoto, the land of 300 temples. How uniquely beautiful it is!

Stay well and stay tuned for my 20th album release of “SKY” coming September 24th, both digitally and on CD!! Go to my page on FaceBook http://facebook.com/jeannenewhallmusic to get your free sneakpeek download from “SKY” on Sunday….all my best,

Jeanne

WEDNESDAY’S WISH — 6 WORDS

image

Six words I wished for my newest and 20th album, coming out next month. I carried these words with me throughout all the performance sessions, mixing hours, and mastering process. Yes, this piece of paper went everywhere, even on the piano hile I was singing and playing. The songs were all composed on various visits to the Northern California coast, where the redwoods kiss the ocean. As with every new album, one hopes to continue to expand the musical consciousness. What does that mean? To open wider, to go deeper, to love more, to let all the nectar flow out — to you, to become aware of our connection and our unity.

in union,
Jeanne

TUESDAY’S TONE — MAGIC HOUR

image

Good Morning,

I know. It’s not Tuesday, it’s Wednesday. I am late by my own watch for this Tuesday’s Tone, but I was sidetracked for most of the day yesterday and this little piece just wasn’t ready to be popped. Finally it happened about 4am. I started to experience my magic hour. (Just ask Wayne Dyer about waking up at that time)

What I call magic hour is usually that early morning time when I just want to turnover, snuggle in even tighter, and drift back to sleep for the last several precious minutes. Instead, a copiously plotted out play carefully unfolds in my mind. All judgements, worries, and concerns of the day have evaporated during the night. The paper is clean and the pencil (remember those) is sharp.

This morning the centering magic hour thought was how fragile we are. How easily we can break. And, how broken we often can become. Stay with me here for a second, it’s not all that depressing. It’s beautiful. Several examples flooded my mind. Some harsh and mostly painful. Loss is always present: a girlfriend whose recently happily married only son now suddenly announces his divorce. Another kindhearted and devoted father is questioning his lifelong religious values as they pertain to how he raised his 23 year old son. A distant friend stills grieves the day she backed up her car and accidentally maimed the beloved 24 year old family feline resulting in his passing. I was there for that tragedy, thankfully, so I could comfort both my friend and her cat.

Then there is the dear lady I have known and loved for a long time. She is more of a maternal figure, always nurturing and caring and coaxing the best from me. She is slipping away quickly now with a sudden increase in dementia and delusions. But when I examine her situation carefully, I see a lost and lonely soul. She has been abandoned by her three children and six grandchildren, divorced once and widowed two times, and now shunned by most of her friends due to her failing mental health. She is fragile in her exterior toughness. She is broken.

I could go on with endless examples. At some point during our life, it happens. Sometimes even at the very end of our life, even in the last few hours, we realize our softness. Our tenderness. Our acceptance of having walked on broken glass.

That realization is the experience of pure love.

Sending you joy,
Jeanne
