TUESDAY’S TONE — 4 WEEKS FROM TODAY

image

Good day all!

Four weeks from today I will be in the wonderful world of islandology known as Japan. It is with childlike delight that I look forward to my 2nd trip there this year! I have found a home away from home; a place that truly resonates with me on many levels including the spiritual. Japan, specifically the places I visited and performed in, Osaka, Kyoto, Ohara, and Tokyo touched me profoundly. The people that I met and performed for gave me much more than I gave to them. It is truly a gift to return to this place.

The newly designed poster by my friend Kouichi Sugioka, announces the first stop on my tour: LIVE SPOT RAG KYOTO. This marks the first of many DUO performances for guitarist Kazunori Koga and I. We hope to see you there on the 10th of October, Thursday evening in the lovely historic city of Kyoto, the land of 300 temples. How uniquely beautiful it is!

Stay well and stay tuned for my 20th album release of “SKY” coming September 24th, both digitally and on CD!! Go to my page on FaceBook http://facebook.com/jeannenewhallmusic to get your free sneakpeek download from “SKY” on Sunday….all my best,

Jeanne

WEDNESDAY’S WISH — 6 WORDS

image

Six words I wished for my newest and 20th album, coming out next month. I carried these words with me throughout all the performance sessions, mixing hours, and mastering process. Yes, this piece of paper went everywhere, even on the piano hile I was singing and playing. The songs were all composed on various visits to the Northern California coast, where the redwoods kiss the ocean. As with every new album, one hopes to continue to expand the musical consciousness. What does that mean? To open wider, to go deeper, to love more, to let all the nectar flow out — to you, to become aware of our connection and our unity.

in union,
Jeanne

NEW ALBUM IN THE WORKS UPDATE

Hi Everyone,

My friend Briana just helped me sequence the 11 songs on my new album that I recorded on May 24th and 25th at Castle Oaks Productions. I love the order she created — Briana is an emotional genius. Grazie, Briana!!

If you have not seen the latest newsletters or blog posts I will fill you in on a little about the album. Abraham Laboriel, the great bassist and my desr friend had played live with me previously a few times, but we had never recorded together. So, Abraham wanted to join me in the studio this time. He also introduced me to Walter Rodriguez, a massively talented drummer and percussionist. Originally from Puerto Rico, Walter now resides in Los Angeles and is heard on many new film scores. He specializes in all my favorite skins: tabla, cajon, udu, and conga.

My friend from my Japan tour in February, Kazunori Koga, flew in from Osaka to join us on acoustic and electric guitars. He thrilled me with his playing when we did the live shows in Japan and again at Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood on the day before our recording sessions. Abraham, Walter, Kazunori, and I became a global group, united in the divine spirit of music.

I mixed the album in June. Don Murray is at the sonic controls again as the recording and mix engineer supreme. There are 10 original songs and 1 Bob Dylan cover of “If Not For You”. That song became even more enticing after I learned that Mr. Dylan wrote it for his dear friend, George Harrison. I have certainly given my nod of appreciation to the Dylan’s…Jacob’s 6th Avenue Heartache on Glide Deluxe Edition, and now his father.

Looking forward to a release in late September or early October.

sending peace and kindness,
Jeanne

BIG SHOW IN LOS ANGELES MAY 23, 2013

#

image

Hi…hoping you will join us for a rare “One Show Only” performance in Hollywood at the famous Catalina Grill & Bar on Sunset Boulevard at Highland Avenue on Thursday evening May 23rd, 8:30 PM. I am thrilled to be able to perform again with Abraham Laboriel – bassist supreme, as well as Kazunori Koga, the vibrant guitarist who performed with me on my recent Japan tour. Kazunori is flying in to perform at Catalina’s and record on my next album. Also, Walter Rodriguez will be joining me for the first time on drums and percussion. He is a protegé of Alex Acüna, tours extensively with Yanni among others and is a first call musician in Los Angeles for both live shows and sessions.
We will be playing songs from many of my older albums such as Zebra and Bedouin’s Paradise as well as several vocals from Wild Blue and Glide Deluxe Edition. Maybe I can even tuck in a sacred chant from Blossom Of Transformation. It will be a fun time…there is a parking garage, just in case you were wondering, and certainly a memorable milestone in my performance career!

Sending rich blessings to all,
Jeanne

Japan Performances 2013 Osaka Tokyo Kyoto

http://bit.ly/PerformInJapan

Hi,

Just back from my magnificent adventure to Japan and feeling rather elated with all the music played, new friends gained, and amazing synergy with this beautiful place. It reminds me of a Chick Corea piece that he composed for his group, Return To Forever, called “Where Have I Known You Before?” A haunting sense of familiarity and yet newness enveloped me in Japan. I posted on my Jeanne Newhall Music FaceBook page that “I have left Japan but it has not left me.” Aside from a DVD that may evolve from the performances in Osaka at The Green Note, the best I can do right now is share these pictures with you. Please enjoy and stay strong in your heart and spirit.
